COLODNY:

I mean whether they were getting to Moorer or not is, is you know maybe in dispute, but one of the — here's one of the problems. Ehrlichman's asked that question. Why, why did you reappoint Moorer? And his answer was we had ourselves a preshrunk admiral.

MITCHELL:

From Nixon?

COLODNY:

No, his ans— his answer was that the reason we reappointed him to the chairmanship —

MITCHELL:

Yeah.

COLODNY:

— was 'cause we had ourselves a preshrunk admiral and my feeling is he had just the opposite.

MITCHELL:

I don't think he was preshrunk at all. He was a big contributor and cooperator with Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger.

COLODNY:

So even if his quote is accurate, your description of Admiral Moorer again is your own personal feeling, not as a result of any investigation you did or at the request of the President any investigation that you did.

MITCHELL:

You're absolutely right, and probably, I say probably, what that hyphen left out was that it was my opinion that Moorer was not involved.
